CAREER SUMMARY
PRE-DEBUT
Ni-ki was born in Okayama, Japan. Prior to debut, Ni-ki was a dance prodigy in Japan. He learned ballet by joining a dance academy at the age of 5. Ni-ki hosted his own Michael Jackson workshops at a dance studio owned by his family. In 2015, Ni-ki was a member of Travis Payne’s (Michael Jackon’s choreographer) dance crew and performed at Yokohama Arena when he was just 9 years old. When he was 11, he was part of the SHINee KIDS and performed with SHINee as “mini Key” during their dome tour in Japan in 2017.
In 2019, Ni-ki moved to Korea by himself to pursue his dreams of becoming a K-Pop idol, at the age of 13. He auditioned by doing a dance cover of “Lie” by BTS, and became a trainee of BELIFT LAB. In June 2020, Ni-ki was one of the 24 trainees to appear on the survival audition program I-LAND, co-produced by CJ E&M and HYBE. He became one of the 7 finalists to debut as ENHYPEN, coming in fourth place by earning more than 1.1 million votes.
Ni-ki trained for 8 months before debut.
AFTER DEBUT
In 2020, Ni-ki debuted as a member of ENHYPEN, a 7-member group under BELIFT LAB, with Jungwon, Heeseung, Jay, Jake, Sunghoon, and Sunoo. Upon his debut, Ni-ki received a lot of attention for his superb dance skills despite his young age, as he was the youngest active K-Pop male idol from his debut in November 2020 to January 2023.
In 2023, Ni-ki was the MC for KCON 2023 Japan with Ryujin (ITZY).
In May 2024, Ni-ki was the “Artist of the Month” on Studio Choom.
POSITIONS
VOCAL
Ni-ki has the lowest vocal range and a deeper tone than the other members in ENHYPEN. Thus, his voice is often quite noticeable in group songs. Ni-ki also has a good sense of rhythm and often gets fast-paced parts with a lot of rhythmic syllables including the “singing rap” parts.
DANCE
Ni-ki is the unofficial “main dancer” of ENHYPEN and is regarded as one of the best dancers of 4th generation K-Pop boy groups with superb fluidity, body control, and detailed mastery of difficult choreography. Ni-ki’s dancing has been praised by K-Pop veteran dancers such as Rain, J-Hope (BTS), The 8 (SEVENTEEN), and Yeonjun (TXT). He is skilled across a variety of genres, including hip-hop, jazz, ballet, b-boying, contemporary/modern, acrobatics, and latino.
