CAREER SUMMARY
PRE-DEBUT
Haerin was a member of the broadcasting club at her elementary school, and had been offered casting by casting managers on the street several times. She was born in Seoul but mostly grew up in Anyang and went to a dance academy there. In 2020, Haerin auditioned at HYBE, singing a song by BOL4 and became a trainee of Source Music, and later of ADOR (both sub-labels under HYBE). She trained for two and a half years before debut.
AFTER DEBUT
In 2022, Haerin debuted as a member of NewJeans, a 5-member group under ADOR, with Minji, Hanni, Danielle, and Hyein with “Attention.” Upon debut, Haerin’s “catlike” visual quickly went viral, with even the general public becoming aware of her nickname, “Kang Kitty” (강고양이). Haerin also received attention for being in the center during the chorus for all of the three triple title tracks (”Attention,” “Hype Boy,” and “Cookie”) on the debut album.
In 2022, Haerin was credited as one of the in lyrics writers for “New Jeans.”
In 2023, Haerin became a global ambassador of DIOR Jewelry and Korea house ambassador for DIOR Beauty and Fashion.

VOCAL
Haerin has generally been praised for her vocals. She has a husky, soothing tone in the lower register and a more sentimental tone in the higher register. Haerin has opened the chorus for all of the triple title tracks on the debut album; “You got me looking for attention” (”Attention”), “Cause I know what you like boy / You’re my chemical hype boy” (”Hype Boy”), and “No dinner for you, even though you’re hungry / No drink for you, even though you’re thirsty” (”Cookie”)
Haerin’s voice has also shone through killing parts such as “No I can never let you go / I only think of you, 24 / I’m such a lucky one / I know, I know” (“OMG”) and “We can go wherever you like / Baby say the words and I’m down” (”ETA”).

Haerin is regarded as one of the unofficial “best dancers” of the team with Hanni. Haerin has shown her strength especially in rhythmical hip-hop based routines. She has been praised for her nimble, precise footwork for performances such as “Hype Boy” and OMG.” Haerin’s power control and fluidity has also been praised for songs such as “New Jeans” and “Cookie.” Haerin has more of a chic and grounded stage presence compared to the relatively more bubbly stage presence of the other members, which has become her own trademark coupled with her “catlike” visuals.
