CAREER SUMMARY
PRE-DEBUT
Hanni was born and raised in Melbourne, Australia to Vietnamese-Australian parents. Hanni is a third-generation Vietnamese-Australian, and her first language is English. Hanni has learned taekwondo, a Korean martial arts sport when she was younger, as her grandfather owns a taekwondo academy in Australia. In 2014, Hanni entered The Voice Kids Australia and sang a song by One Direction, who she had been a fan of.
In 2019, Hanni was active as a member of K-Pop cover dance team, “Aemina” with Vietnamese-Australian friends in Melbourne. In October 2019, Hanni auditioned at the Melbourne global auditions held by Source Music, singing “Would you be so kind” by Dodie Clark and playing ukuelele to accompany the song. She first became a trainee of Source Music, and later of ADOR (both sub-labels under HYBE).
In 2021, Hanni appeared in the music video for “Permission to Dance” by BTS with Minji.
Hanni was a trainee for approximatly two and a half years before debut.
AFTER DEBUT
In 2022, Hanni debuted as a member of NewJeans, a 5-member group under ADOR, with Minji, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein with “Attention.” Upon debut, Hanni received attention for as the “girl with twintails” in the music video for “Attention,” and also for being the first fully Vietnamese member to debut from HYBE or from a major K-Pop company. Hanni was praised for her dreamy vocals, dance abilities and stage presence, especially for her dynamic facial expressions on stage.
Hanni was credited as one of the in lyrics writers for “Hype Boy” in 2022 and “OMG” in 2023.
As of 2024, Hanni is active as the global ambassador for GUCCI fashion and beauty, Armani Beauty, and UGG.

VOCAL
Hanni has been consistently praised for her skills as a vocalist. Her distinctive vocal tones are clear and mellow, and have been called “no autotune necessary” by the fandom for its smooth quality. Her vocals fit best with moody, mid- or slow- tempo R&B tracks and especially in the mid- to high-register. Hanni has also been noted for her stable live vocals and bending/vibrato techniques.
DANCE
Hanni is regarded as one of the unofficial “best dancers” of the team with Haerin. Hanni has been praised for her power control and fluid/groovy style of dancing. Hanni is especially skilled at controlling her upper body such as waist (core strength), shoulders, and neck. Hanni is also known for her dynamic facial expressions on stage. Several of Hanni’s moments on stage have went viral, most notably the neck isolation choreography sequence in “Cookie” and her signature expression of winking with her tongue out in “Super Shy.”
